Easy at home treatments for fall skin
If you're in a rush (and we all are these days!), sometimes you don't have the time to go the store and get ready for fall. No worries, we at Musk have some simple tips on how to get your skin smooth and glowing for fall, all of which can be done at home.
Add more essential fatty acids to your diet.
What are essential fatty acids (EFA)? They are fatty acids that can only be obtained from your diet. They are thought to be important in many metabolic processes and a shortage can cause illness including osteoporosis. For skin, EFA's help in replacing moisture that can be lost. Some food sources that are rich in EFA include flaxseed oil, fatty fish (like salmon and tuna),walnuts, soya and canola oil, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, as well as leafy vegetables.
Add some spice (ok oil) into your life.
Certain oils are so good for your skin, you should try incorporating it into your bath. Almond oil, jojoba oil, sesame oil, they are all great for your skin, a few drops is all you need to get softer smoother skin. We like Neutrogena's Body Oil ($9.99), this light sesame formula will leave you smelling fresh, clean and heavenly, and yes both men and woman can use it.
Stop Licking Your Lips.
This is such a simple tip, but it's probably one of the hardest to do! It's something we all do without meaning to, but the saliva in your lips contains enzymes that actually dry and crack your lips! So stop licking, and if you want to use a lip balm, avoid petroleum based products-they actually dry your lips out more!
Turn down the thermostat.
I know it's colder, but if you can wear shorts around the house or not have to change for a hawaiian themed party then turn down the heat! All that heat is very drying to your skin, hair and lips.
Drink More.
Unfortunately I'm not talking about alcohol, although red wine is beneficial in that it contains antioxidants that prevents free radical damage. Free radicals are changed ions that damage the body, skin etc. So a glass a day of red wine is good for you. However, we're talking about water and milk. Water flushes out impurities and really does help give you clear skin. You've heard the 8 glasses a day, but try and get at least one with every meal. Milk is also great for your skin. It is a good source of vitamin A which is great for skin (and bones), so don't forget to drink your milk and you'll soon be noticing smoother, healthier looking skin.
Side note: With the colder drier weather, try putting a bowl of water in your rooms, you'll be surprised how fast it evaporates, but it will add some needed moisture to the air.
