5 skincare tips for fall 2008

Fall is just around the corner, and like every season, there are changes that should be made to your hair, skin and makeup regimes.  Here are some handy tips on getting your skin ready for fall.

Hydrate.

This is key this season.  We've all experienced that dry itchy skin that drives you nuts with the cooler air of fall and winter.   The best way-hydrate from within.  Drink your water, it not only hydrates your body, it also flushes out the impurities and will leave you with glowing skin in no time.

Humidify.

If the air is cooler it's going to be drier as well.  Invest in a humidfier, it will put some moisture back in the air and will help keep your skin nice and moist too.  Another solution, is to go and treat yourself to some time in a sauna.  Sauna's cause you to sweat which helps rid the bodies of impurities and help your skin stay healthy.

Exfoliate.

Exfoliating helps rid your skin of dead cells which can accumulate with dry skin.  Once a week treat yourself to a body exfoliation, to invigorate and help your skin shine.  Our favs are Caudalie's Crushed Cabernet Scrub ($35.00) and Philosophy's Senorita Margarita Hot Salt Scrub ($25.00).  Too much? Go for St Ive's Apricot Scrub ($5.99), a longtime favorite.

Moisturize.

After exfoliating, you're skin will be more than ready for a good moisturizing.  Switch from your lighter summer lotion to a heavier formulation, preferably something oil based since it will be better at locking moisture in your skin. Our favs are Aveeno's Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($10.99) and Olay Age Transfor Body Creme Serum ($8.99).  Both formula's are soothing, fairly lightweight and moisturize for a long time.  A classic, always highly rate moisturizer is Nivea Creme ($6.99), for the price it provides long lasting moisturizing.

Protect.

Just because summer is over, doesn't mean sunscreen is over too.  There is still alot of UV and sun that is present, so even on the coldest of days don't forget to wear your sunscreen.  An SPF 15 or more would be ideal.  If you don't like the idea of wearing a separate sunscreen, then use a moisturizer with SPF 15 in it (most moisturizers have SPF in it!).  Our favorite is La Roche Posay Anthelios SX Daily Moisturizer ($29.50).  Dermatologically tested, a great moisturizer with UV A and UV B protection, it has it all!
