The best hairstyle for your face

Are you looking for a new hairstyle but not sure what to do?  Consider your face shape and give yourself a cut that flatters it.  Guys, this also works for you too, so don' t be shy.  If your not sure of your face shape, follow the guide below and you'll be on your way!

There are several types of face shapes

LONG

Characteristics:

Your face is longer than it is wider,so your goal is to widen your face.

Ideal style:

Try some gentle waves or curls to your hair to add the illusion of width.  The general shape you want is a V shape style cut-length in the back, while the front and side are shorter.  Bangs should be at brow length.

Avoid:

Long hair-it will drag your face down. Maximum length should be shoulder length.  If the thought of cutting your locks breaks your heart, then at least layer it, with layers at nose, chin and collarbone length.

ROUND

Characteristics:

Your face is wider than it is longer, so your goal is to minimize the width of your face.

Ideal Style:

Layering of hair that has most volume/fullness at the top of your head and less volume on the sides of your face.  This will help make your face appear longer and narrower. Wispy ends also suit you.  Bangs should be kept long and side swept look best.

Avoid:

One length hair cuts or any short (especially curly) hair cuts-it will make your face look even rounder!  Longer hair suits you better.

SQUARE

Characteristics:

You have a pronounced square jawline, and your forehead/hairline are equally square, so you want to draw attention away from your jawline.

Ideal Style:

Some curls or waviness to your hair, will help balance your features.  Your best length is short or medium, with wispiness or layering around your face.  Bangs should be parted off center, wispy, starting at the crown of your head.

Avoid:

Longer, straight styles (this will highlight your jawline).

HEART

Characteristics:

Your face is widest at the hairline and temples, with it narrowing to a small chin. So you want to draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones instead of your pointed chin.

Ideal Style:

Any side parted hair style, that is at least chin length and longer works well.  Your hair layered with it swept forward around the face (and wispy ends) works well.  For shorter hair, have to top layers longer and soft, for long hair, have long layers that touch your cheekbones. Bangs as previously stated, work best side parted.

Avoid:

Short, blunt or choppy hair-it will emphasize that chin of yours!

TRIANGULAR

Characteristics:

Yours is the opposite of the heart shape-a wider jawline with a narrow cheekbone and temples.

Ideal Style:

Any style that is fuller and layered at the temples and narrows at the jawline works best.  Try a shaggy hair style.  Hair should be parted off center, and shorter hair helps to balance your jaw out. Bangs should be long and side parted.

Avoid:

Long, full hair styles that are center parted.

OVAL

Characteristics:

This is the ideal face type, just about anything suits you!  Your jawline is just a little narrower than your temples, with a rounded hair line. Your face is well balanced and even proportioned.

Ideal Style:

Anything!  Short, long, medium-it's your choice.  It looks best when styled off your face and you can even get away with hair that is slicked back.

Avoid:

Covering up your face, with a forward directing style or bangs in your face.
