Welcome Matte

Now you know the general idea for fall makeup:heavy eyes in Purples and Blue (or black smoke out)paired with matte nude lips, or deep red or purple lips with nude eyes.  What ever you choose the look for skin is the same-matted.  In some ways, this is kind of a blessing, with the change in the air it has the effect of drying on the skin and helps to get this look.  Essentially matte means without shine, so your skin will look natural and healthy but without a shine to it.  This is perfect for highlighting the colors your wanting to emphasize on eyes or lips.  To get this matte look you have to consider your skin type and the foundation that would work best for it.

DRY SKIN:

Prep: First moisturize, let it set in for 5 minutes, then apply your foundation.

Best Foundation: Cream or Stick foundations, which helps to keep your skin moist but not shiny

Where To Apply: Use it on the areas of your skin that aren't even, and leave the rest of your skin alone!

Suggested Products: We like Laura Mercier Stick Foundation ($40), it moisturizes and hydrates, all the while helping your skin look flawless.

OILY SKIN:

Prep: Use a cleanser that will absorb oil from your skin, but won't dry you out too much. Best to go with a product that is marketed as a gentle cleanser and pat it dry. Then apply your moisturizer (which should be light in nature).

Best Foundation: Cream to Powder Foundation since it helps to absorb oil and keep your face shine free.

Where To Apply: All over and finish with a translucent powder to help set the skin and perfect your  look.

Suggested Product: Lancome Dual Finish Versatile Powder Makeup ($35.50US/47.00CDN).  Can be used dry or wet providing full coverage and a glorious matte finish.  Chanel Teint Innocence Cream to Powder Compact Foundation ($56), glides on easy with and natural even finish.

COMBINATION SKIN:

Prep: For your dry areas moisturize and let it set for a few minutes, meanwhile use a gentle cleanser to absorb the oil in the areas that need it.

Best Foundation: Whipped Mousse foundation or oil free liquid foundation.  They are light and offer moisture to the areas that need it, but don't add oil to your skin.

Where To Apply: Only to the areas that need it, and finish with a powder to help set.

Suggested Product: Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation SPF 20 ($58). A new water based foundation, provides 14 hours of matte coverage and you won't even feel it's on.
