How to wear skinny pants
If you look around, one thing that is everywhere this season has got to be the skinny pant. This can be daunting for some women, so we thought we'd give you some tips on how to wear them, and actually make them flatter your figure.
1) The Color
Ok, this one is a no brainer, black has got to be the choice of most women. It's flattering, thinning, and draws attention to just the right areas. For jeans, a dark denim suits anyone.
2) The Cut
Believe it or not, there are different cuts for this look. You can go super skinny, which gives a second skin look which are narrow and very tapered at the bottom, or you can go for a skinny pant that has a little give. These are a little wider and not as tapered at the bottom. The second of these is obviously the most forgiving cut and just happens to be the most popular in most stores.
3) How to Wear It
The best (and most flattering to all body types), is to wear them tucked into a boot. If your legs are a little wider, pair them with a slouched boot which will act to draw attention away from you wider legs. Another slimming tip is to pair them with a good size heel. Everyone knows that high heel helps to elongate and thin your legs, so this is especially useful for women with wider hips. You can wear flats with these pants, but this is most flattering to petite women or tall women. For those of you who are a medium height, and a little curvier, you might want to avoid this, flats end up having a shortening effect on you, and can make your hips seem wider!
4) What to Wear Them With
There is a simple rule to remember with this look, the skinnier the pant the more billowy the top. Try to keep it refined and elegant, so a longer tunic to cover your belly and bum are a better choice, plus they give the added bonus of making your legs look longer.
For a really chic look, pair your skinnies with a loose t-shirt/tank top and fitted blazer. The blazer should be cinched at the waist but have a normal shoulder width and sleeves should be a little longer (past the wrist).
Our picks:
Balenciaga and Helmut Lang make the best skinny pants (if you can find them), but they are expensive. Armani Exchange also makes a great pair of skinny pants, at a reasonable price ($88.00), which is part of their fall 2009 collection.
For leggings, we loved the colors, textures and range from American Apparel (www.americanapparel.net), plus they are reasonably priced!
