New Year New Hair

Want to shake up your new year with a new look?  Try changing your hair!  It's so simple but it can give you a completely different look.  If you're not into cutting at least consider a change in color?  There are some great trends for 2010 that are refreshingly different but oh so modern.

There are some styles from 2009 that are still holding strong- that 40's film noir romantic yet coiffed hair, the soft braided milk maid hair, even that long central parted hippy hair that is still on every runway.  What's new this season are some of the updo's and slicked back styles.

For updos try a neat knot on the top or side of your head, fabulous and so elegant!  If you don't have the patience for this (this look works best with naturally straight hair), then go for the messier "pile o hair" as I like to call it.  Basically instead of a knot try layering your hair so it looks like a nest on your head-I know it's sounds weird, but it actually looks good.  You'll need a good styling product for this two looks, so I have to recommend a new product from Shu Uemura that is probably the best hair creme I've ever used.  It's called KENGO FEATHER ($30US) and its a really light creme that holds your hair put without that weighed down feeling.  Even better is that your hair looks better the next day when you wake up!  So if you've been out all night, had a frisky night, or are just doing the walk of shame from a debauched night, take solace in the fact your hair still looks fab!

Another updo that's a combination of trends is the neat braid but looped on the top/side/back of your head.  It makes your hair look like rope and it can be seen in many editorials.

If an updo isn't your thing, short pixie cuts are still hot, but put some extra kick into it-try slicking it back, or having a masculine side part to be current.  If your hair is longer, just slick the top back and let the rest of your hair roam free.

If you're more of a natural girl, then the look this season is to go long,  I'm talking past your butt long or close too, so get your hair growing.  You can central or side part, with a bit of mess, almost bedheaded but not looking disheveled.

If your happy with your hair the way it is, but looking for a different look, try coloring your hair for a change.  Every year the hot colors seem to change so here's a rundown of the hottest shades for winter and even spring:

Blond-Platinum almost white if your really looking to make waves.  If this is too extreme, golden blond might be the answer your looking for.  It's a nice in between color that's not too dark, but not to light either.

Redhead-Any shade of red is hot this season!  So stop cursing that red hair god/buddha or whoever you believe in gave you!  You now belong to an exclusive club of fashion elite for 2010.

Black-Jet black or just black and short are so hot this year, you'll be shocked to see how many models have gone black, and won't come back!
