Varied texture ruled this season’s runways where hair was silky smooth, crowned with flyaways, or creatively gelled into place. Designers with a taste for the simple (yet beautiful) got glistening, shiny, healthy locks, while our stylists satisfied edgier tastes with voluminous, cotton candy textures or super tight, slick dos.

Welcome Matte

Now you know the general idea for fall makeup:heavy eyes in Purples and Blue (or black smoke out)paired with matte nude lips, or deep red or purple lips with nude eyes.  What ever you choose the look for skin is the same-matted.  In some ways, this is kind of a blessing, with the change in the air it has the effect of drying on the skin and helps to get this look.  Essentially matte means without shine, so your skin will look natural and healthy but without a shine to it.  This is perfect for highlighting the colors your wanting to emphasize on eyes or lips.  To get this matte look you have to consider your skin type and the foundation that would work best for it.

Spring 2009 makeup trends

You're probably wondering why we put this is in the skin section of the magazine, well folks spring 2009 is all about beautiful moist skin.  Generally makeup is softer and more understated.

For Eyes:

It's all about femininity this season.  Eyebrows are thinner more feminine looking (but not super thin or too manicured), eye makeup is featuring softer, more neutral colors or softer pastel colors.  Smokey eyes this season are more violet or lilac so they work for everyone.  Another trend are false feminine eyelashes, just to add an extra sex appeal.

For Skin:

Skin this season is very naturale, but with a moisturized, illuminated look.  (We're not talking oily though), just hydrated with nicely contoured features.  Now is when those contouring pens and creams are really worth it.  If you're not sure how to do this, don't fret just read our next article!  Colors to contour with are natural colors-soft pink, peach and light plums.  The key is your skin should look effortless and flawless, so make sure your makeup is lightweight and looks natural, almost barely there in day light.

For Lips:

Lips are in again.  Like past seasons we've noted, nude and pale lips are still in.  If that's not your thing and you want color make sure it's lighter in color, so there is a hint (not a wash) of color. Lips are also healthy and hydrated looking, but not like you just ate a pork chop look-just moist.  So lay off the heavy gloss, sparkles and heavy colors and go light this season.

How to contour your face to perfection

This season skin is in baby!! Spring is all about healthy dewey skin and  highlighting your lovely bone structure.  I know what your thinking-what bone structure?  If your like most, you probably don't have that perfectly chiseled cheekbones or defined jawlines, but that doesn't mean you can't give the illusion of it!!  This is the beauty of contouring, to give structure where there may not be any.  Most makeup lines have contouring pens, powders as their must have product, so here are some tips on how to use them.
