SIZZLING HOT COLORS FOR SUMMER 2008
As you can see bronzer are back in a big way this season, so a lot of the colors introduced this season were all complimentary to your newly bronzed skin. However there is some color in some of the collections, so if bronzing isn't your thing, there are other colors you can work with. Here is a run down of some of the popular colors that were in most collections and will keep you looking up to date.
SKIN
Bronze
Most of the collections had bronzers in some way shape or form and golden/copper highlights were key to finish this look. One of our favorites is Bronze Universal De Chanel ($45.00), a light gel cream formulation that flatters all skin tones and imparts an all day glow with a light sheer powder finish. We also like Guerlain's Terracotta Bronzing Brush ($45.00) a tube of bronzer cream with a brush at the end-just squeeze the tube, the bronzer spreads across the brush and stroke onto your face-perfect even application with a light matte finish!
Pearl
For those of a fairer complexion, where bronze can be a little hard to achieve, you can go for the more matte pearl finish to your look. Guerlain has introduced a line called Meteorites. It's makeup with a delicate pearly finish to make your skin, eyes and lips radiant under the summer sun. The Meteorites Poudre de Perles Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder ($65.00) conceals, brightens and transforms the complexion without adding shine with a beautiful pearly finish.
EYES
Neutral tones with a shimmering gold, copper or pearly finish
It all depends on your skin. For those who are bronzed, shimmering golden, copper finishes compliments well. For the fairer complexions go with the pearly finish. Some of our favorites palettes were Dior's 5 Colour Eyeshadow in Golds ($52.00) and Givenchy's Mat and Glow ($53.00, which has 9 different colors). Both have several shades that can be used alone or mixed together to give a vast array of colors and finishes depending on the look you want to achieve. Too many choices? Then go for NARS Duo Cream Eyeshadow in Unconditional Love ($32.00 2 copper shades with matte finish) or their Single Eyeshadow in Galapagos ($22.00, chocolate infused with gold).
Blue, Khaki, Pinks, Purples and Corals
Yes, there is some color this season! The common colors we saw in the summer collections were blue, khaki, pinks and corals, with various shades and finishes on the eyes. Blue was a focal color in a couple of collections: Givenchy and MAC. Givenchy has the Denim Fetiche Collection, with the Black Denim (metallic deep purple, black cream, peach and metallic silver-grey) and Indigo Denim (metallic deep blue, pink-peach, yellow and metallic lavender) palettes ($49.50) featuring blue as the focal color that all other colors are complimentary to. MAC's Naughty Nautical Collection has introduced some new vibrant blue eyeshadows ($16.50)-Submarine (an aqua blue) and Meet the Fleet (matte midnight blue), as well blue pigments ($23.50)-Bell bottom Blue (dirty blue with white pearl), Mutiny (sky blue with gold pearl). Another popular shade was green, especially khaki, since this goes well with bronzed skin. Dior, Guerlain and Chanel introduced Khaki eyeshadows to their palette collections. Lancome introduced a Sun kissed Khaki (gold and khaki) Color Design Defining and Brightening Eye Pencil Duo($28.00), and Chanel also added a jade green Waterproof Mascara called Emaraude ($27.50). Pinks, purples and corals are other colors that are present this season. Pink is a focal color in the Guerlain Meteorites Collection. The Ombre Eclat-4 Shades Eyeshadow in Rose Boise ($56.00) is delicate mix of pinks-all with a pearly finish. We also like Chanel's Lumieres Facettes Eyeshadow Quad in Oasis ($55.00), which contains, khaki, bronze, coral and pink, so if you get this one palette your set!! For purples, we loved the new MAC Pigment ($23.50) Lovely Lilly, which is a dirty lilac with red pearl finish.
LIPS
Corals, Pinks, Reds and Purples
All the collections featured these colors in their lip palettes! Lancome just introduced a new line of lipsticks and glosses to their popular Color Fever collections-Color Fever Roses Collection which is devoted to the color of roses-pink and red. The 2 hottest colors this season are Coral and Pink-they are everywhere!! Now we know, these colors can be quite challenging to pull off, so we tried a few and found some products that looked good on various skin tones. For orange lipstick our favorite is Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine #531 ($28.00). This ingenious product react with light to give you a subtle orange coloring that naturally matches anyone's complexion (it brings out the orange in your lips). If you are hesitant at trying orange lipstick, you HAVE to try this-it will make you a believer!! For gloss, our favorite was Dior's Ultra-Gloss in Coral Lame ($24.50), subtle yet beautiful. For pinks, our new must have lipsticks and gloss are from Chanel-The Rouge Allure in Pink Saphir ($30.00), a nice subtle pink and Glossimer in Gazelle ($26.00), a hot pink with a little sparkle. For those of you, who are really stuck to find a pink that works, try Smashbox's O-Gloss ($22.00), is an intuitive gloss that reacts with your individual skin chemistry to bring out the natural pink in your lips-so you know it will match with your complexion!!
