One of the easiest ways to protect your hair is to cover it up-wear a hat or scarf. Wearing a hat is pretty straight forward, but the scarf is not so easy. Most women think there is only one way to wear a head scarf-the classic triangle that is tied around the back, but there are others!! Always stylish, always chic, here are some ideas on how to wear a head scarf:
1)The Babushka
This is the look we all know and love, just place your scarf on the table so it's a square, then fold down the top right corner to the bottom left corner so it makes a triangle. Place the base of the triangle across your forehead and tie the ends behind your head, then take the tip of the triangle, place it over the top of your head and a)tuck it in underneath the knot at the back of your head or b)just let the ends roam free-now your scalp and hair are covered. This looks works really well with larger foreheads.
2)Around the chin-a la Grace Kelly
I call this the Grace Kelly look, because I always think of her in a convertible with Cary Grant racing through the Rivera. This is when you place the base of the triangle around the forehead but tie the ends in front under your chin, leaving the tip to roam free-great when your riding in a convertible with the top down! I love this look with a lighter type scarf-a chiffon or silk scarf works well.
3)As a hairband
You can take a smaller scarf and keep folding it in half until it becomes a hair band, and use it as such, by tying it around the back of your head, to the side, or even the front of your head . You can also use it to wrap around the base of your ponytail in replace of an elastic, for a stylish finish.
4)Turban
After folding your square into a triangle, place the fold edge on your forehead and cross the end made by the triangle at the back of your head, then bring the ends back to the front. Tie the ends and you can either a)let the ends drape loosely in the front or b)tuck the loose ends underneath the fold edge on your forehead.
5)Rosette Turban
After folding your scarf into a triangle, place the scarf on your head with both ends to one ear and knot it. Twist one of the loose ends tightly and wrap in around the knot and tuck it in, then repeat with the other loose end. Hold the ends and knot in place with bobby pins.
