It's finally spring!!!!!!!! Not only do you have warmer, kinder weather to look forward to, but this season's color ranges are bright, fresh and oh so fun to play with! Spring 2008 is all about vibrant, take a look at me colors. The hottest colors on everyone palettes are pinks, purples, blues, yellow, tangerines, greens and reds. However, don't throw out those metallics just yet, they are still a part of the whole spring thing. Layer these vibrant shades with the gold, taupe and bronze to make your eyes light up. Metallics are still present, just a little softer, with very light dusting to give that glow. Here is an overview of the most popular colors for eyes, lips and cheeks.
EYES:
Bright Purples, Blues and Greens are hot this season. The brighter the better, just make sure it's layered and paired with other colors that compliment it or a metallic to make the color pop (gold works best). I can't gush on enough about Urban Decay's Graffiti (green), Amore (electric blue) and Ransom (vibrant purple)($18.00 www.urbandecay.com). Bright, vibrant, smooth as silk, you've never experienced color like this! Pink is also very chic this season. Dior's 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Spring Bouquet and Pink May ($52.00 www.dior.com) are not only beautifully packaged, but are so beautiful on, it will make anyone a fan. If your still not into pink, then try the new coral shades (which are infused with a warm orange) or even red to give a warmed appearance. Lise Watier has introduced a beautiful Palette Soleil ($35.00 www.lisewatier.com) in their new Urban Sunset Collection. If you didn't think you could wear corals, try this line, they are subtle and are a fresh take on spring beauty.
For a softer look, try the new pastels shades that are everywhere. Shades like lilac, eggshell blue or pale green are so beautiful and give a really soft, romantic look. Chanel's 4 Fleurs de Chanel Yeux ($65.00 uma.chanel.com) is the perfect example of this, and is well worth it. Try pairing these with light pink lips and expect romance!
Our pick for the boldest color trend this season- white (yes white!) eye makeup. Try MAC Eye Kohl in Fascinating ($13.50 www.maccosmetics.com), and you'll be fascinating everyone around you with your new take on the alluring cat eyes.
EYE TIP: If this is too bold for you, just trying using some white shadow on the inside of the lower lid, it will brighten up those eyes in a modern way. MAC's Eyeshadow in White Frost ($14.00) or Lancome's Color Design in Drape ($16.50 www.lancome.com) are great picks.
LIPS:
This season is all about lips. There are 2 trends which are polar opposites of each other. You can either go the playful route with PINKS and CORALS or join the dark side, with DARK WINE COLORED LIPS in PURPLES, BURGUNDY or DEEP REDS. For deep dark red, or burgundy's look no furthur than NARS Scarlett Express (rich red) and Tamango (burgundy) ($24.00 www.narscosmetics.com). It comes in 3 finishes, Matte, Sheer and Satin depending on the look you want, but the colors are really intense and will make you lips stand out in a crowd. Armani's Matte Silk Lipstick in #9 (deep red) and #14 (deep brown) ($25.00 www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) has a luxurious velvety finish that brings out the sophistication in all of us. Best applied with a lip brush, it gets a natural polished finish. I have to mention MAC's Ruby Woo (rich red) because it is such a favorite of many and well priced. It lasts all day, doesn't cake and leaves your lips dramatic even at the end of the day. ($14.00 www.maccosmetics.com) With pinks, is best to have a matted pressed look, with corals use a glossy finish. One of our favorites was Lancome's Color Fever Lipstick in Pink in the Limo (vibrant)or Rose Defile (subtle) ($25.00 www.lancome.com) rich, creamy and long wearing- if you never thought you could wear pink, it will make you a believer. Shu Uemura's Hot Fushia Pink or Matte Vivid Fushia ($23.00 www.shuuemura.com) are great picks as well, and have a deserved cult following. Shu Uemura's new spring line, has these fantastic Rouge Unlimited Lipstick's, our favorite shade was the Serene Pink ($23.00 www.shuuemura.com), which act to enhance the pink already in your lips. No matter what your skin tone is. it gives you a natural, romantic soft pink. For Corals, try Chanel Levres Scintillantes in Coral Reef ($25.00 uma.chanel.com), NARS Lipgloss in Giza or Babe ($24.00 www.narscosmetics.com) or the economical Tarte Lipgloss in Kevin and Winnie ($19.00 www.tartecosmetics.com), believe me we never knew that orange could look so good! For the record, this isn't that Mrs. Roper makeup from the 70's, it's actually wearable and won't make you look like your in a time warp!!
LIP TIP: Use foundation on lips to even your lips out and give a matted look. It's also important to keep your lips nice and hydrated before applying makeup, or you lips will look cracked and dry.
CHEEKS and FACE:
With bolder colors now being used on eyes or lips, skin should be kept natural and fresh, so consider a matte finish foundation. What is a matte finish foundation? It generally is used for oily skin since it controls oil plus prevents breakthrough shine later in the day. Our favorites have to be Giorgio Armani's Matte Silk Foundation ($55.00 www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) and Chanel's Mat Lumiere ($52.00 uma.chanel.com). Armani's Matte Silk Foundation leaves your skin velvety soft and silky smooth, plus it has the added bonus of controlling shine whether you have oily skin or not. Chanel's Mat Lumiere is lightweight with a nice soft natural finish, you won't believe matte could feel so good!
If you are lucky enough to be blessed with naturally beautiful skin then just use Sheer or Natural finish makeup (which will even out skin tone and keep you looking natural). Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil ($19.00 www.bareescentuals.com) is a great choice. It helps to minimizes pores and wrinkles and leaves you with a soft illuminating quality to your skin. Philosophy's the Supernatural ($35.00 www.philosophy.com) leaves a sheer, natural finish that gives you a smooth airbrushed appearance.
On cheeks, you can still use those bronzers we talked about in February (see Archives February), but the key is you want to have a polished, refined look, so try using bronzer behind the cheekbones and temple to sculpt your face,
GENERAL TIP: For day, it's best to make just one of your features bold and dramatic, while keeping the other two tamer or even natural. For night, if your using dramatic colors you can go bold with 2 features but you should keep the other feature tame or natural.
